You might have heard that Google & Twitter have teamed up, creating what can only be thought of as an Internet marketer’s dream team. Take it from me an obsessive person when it comes to online marketing plans, this new ‘gem’ can definitely help you get more bang for your social media buck online.
Straight from Google Developer- Whether you’re interested in the latest from Taylor Swift, news about the #MadMenFinale, or updates on the NBA playoffs, you’ll have access to it directly from Google. Let’s use NASA as an example—just ask the Google app about “NASA Twitter,” and in the search results, you’ll see Tweets from @NASA Read more about this straight from Google’s “Google & Twitter Takes Flight” Article!
What Does the Partnership Mean?
Google is now allowing Twitter post to stream onto the search browser; this means that Google will be displaying all tweets in all English search results, including mobile searches that are relevant to the that person’s query.
The Twitter content is shown to everyone who searches, even those who don’t have a Twitter account themselves. No doubt this great news for those of you utilizing Twitter already. Twitter is a great marketing tool within it’s own micro-site, now you will get upgraded to the macro search site of Google simultaneously!
The Impact of the Partnership
Businesses who have already implemented social media, but are not utilizing Twitter will miss the opportunity to market and expand their business. It’s time to rethink your marketing plan if you’re not yet incorporating Twitter.
How you can use this to your online marketing plan’s advantage
This partnership gives businesses a reason to tweet more often. Tweet about things that aren’t related to your business – not every online marketing plan has to be 100% marketing, get people engaging with you. But be strategic, optimize sideways relevant searches that you know your target market would be searching.
Tweet about news and current affairs and events within your industry. You should start seeing an increase in traffic due to the Google/Twitter partnership, and will hopefully benefit from a higher level of brand awareness as people see your business name and tweets pop up in their Google searches.
The most important thing to do is stay active with your Twitter account as you originally planned to in your initial online marketing plan. If you don’t have a Twitter account for your business yet, make one (or call us we will do it for you), and start tweeting!
