Social media is a key element of every online marketing plan. It doesn’t matter whether you are using social media platforms for direct selling, content marketing or even just customer support; it is the ideal opportunity to connect with your target audience and build a strong brand. However, there are countless different platforms and choosing which ones belong in your online marketing plan can be overwhelming. 1 – Choose the Correct Social Networks

It is important to determine which social networks are the best fit for your brand. Think about image and goals. Also, consider who the target audience is and where they are spending their time. For example, if you are offering B2B services, Tumblr is probably not the best option given that the primary demographic is teens to early twenties. In this situation, a platform like LinkedIn would be a better fit.

2 –  Visual Branding Matters

Visual elements of social media profiles are a very important part of any online marketing plan. Not only do the graphics have to be aesthetically pleasing, they also have to represent the brand appropriately. It is also important to make sure that the same graphics are utilized across all platforms to give a cohesive look and help consumers identify official channels linked to the brand. These tips can help you to create a strong visual brand:

  • Choose a color palette and stick with it in all graphic elements
  • Use the same logo or avatar on every platform
  • Use filters consistently – stick to one or two to create a cohesive look
  • Create templates using your preferred fonts, style & colors

3 – Create a Voice

Every piece of content that is published as part of an online marketing plan needs to be consistent with the brand image and that includes social media posts. Start by creating a voice for the brand. What sort of tone is going to appeal to the target audience? Will you use industry language or layman’s terms? In addition to creating a consistent voice, you also need to be consistent on the topics covered. Chose a central topic with some related sub-topics and stick with them for consistency.

4 – Make the Most of the Bio/Profile Area

Many brands make the mistake of wasting the bio/profile area on social platforms. However, it can be an excellent place to get the message across about what the brand represents. Use the bio as an elevator pitch to really sell the brand. Describe the company in 2 to 3 key sentences.
